Open a winmail.dat file, free
Got an e-mail with only a winmail.dat attachment? It's an Outlook wrapper. Drop it here: Lisible lists the real attachments (PDF, Word, Excel, images) so you can download them, plus the message text.
The file is read in your browser only: it is never uploaded.
Outlook e-mails you can't open, often? Lisible opens winmail.dat, .msg and .eml on iPhone and Mac.
Why did I get a winmail.dat file?
The sender uses Outlook with “Rich Text” format. Mail apps outside Outlook (Gmail, iPhone Mail, Apple Mail) cannot read it, so they show winmail.dat instead of the attachments.
How do I open winmail.dat on iPhone or Mac?
With the Lisible app: share the attachment from Mail or Files → “Open in Lisible”. It also opens Outlook .msg and .eml files, offline.
Can the sender avoid it?
Yes: in Outlook, send in HTML or plain-text format instead of Rich Text. Until then, Lisible opens it.
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no ads, and your files stay on your device.
